Well well well. So you decided to come back for more? Which means you’re either diggin this crap called rock n roll, or you’re just becoming immune to it. Either way, welcome back for another hip-shakin, kick-in-the-arse episode of audio disasters.

A little tribute to start things off… Bob Bogle, one of the founding members of the incredible, and innovative 60s surf/instro band the Ventures passed away. They have to be recognized and appreciated for their genius, and what they’ve done to shape rock n roll.

Another set of off-kilter rare, oddball weirdness is always to be expected here at staticfraction, but the one highlight here I must mention is the Nomads – Icky Poo. Obviously the Stray Cats heard this obscure nugget and made it their own. Amazing!

The Guilty Hearts kick around some blues rock trash from Switzerland. On Voodoo Rhythm records. And The Street Dogs are drunks from from Boston, featuring Mike McColgan of the Dropkick Murphys. They have a newer record on Hellcat records, but this song comes from their 2006 record on Brass Tacks. Cheers!

Bear Claw is an amazing ker-chunk of music from Chicago on Sickroom Records. 2 basses and drums makes this stuff heavy on the ‘ol ear canals. Recorded and mixed by Steve Albini, and mastered by Bob Weston. Great stuff.

The Young Widows are from Louisville Kentucky and are quickly making a name for themselves. ‘Old Wounds’ is from last year on Temporary Residence, and it slightly more experimental than their earlier stuff. They also have a series of split singles with some bands like…oh… Coliseum and Pelican. Check ‘em out opening for Harvey Milk and Torche too!!! YESSSS!

Sweet Cobra also hails from Chicago, and just released this blisteringly, heavy, mother-crunching 3 song vinyl EP on the Seventh Rule label. The EP features an awesome etched side featuring artwork, and is very limited. (Probably gone as I’m writing this.) I’m sure digital copies will make their way around soon, but who cares about digital when you can get vinyl, right?

And rounding out the show, some songs about bourbon. There seems to be this ‘booze theme’ ending the shows lately. Maybe because I’m enjoying a tasty beverage right now. Well it seems ok to me. Alright, enough…enjoy the tunes!!!
